Cake Mix: Learning to Love All Your Ingredients is Mikki Hernandez’ debut children’s book. Noticing a lack of stories from the mixed-race community, Hernandez drew from her own experiences as growing up mixed and always fielding the question “What are you?” to write the story of Remy, a young mixed-race girl who learns through baking that every part of our “mix” should be celebrated. Through the whimsical world of baking, CAKE MIX introduces audiences of all backgrounds to what it means to love and accept the ingredients that fold into what makes every child their unique self.
